Tldr: M-Audio (just like Alesis and much of Akai) is dead, buy their product at your own risk.I was just about to post what actually happened to M-Audio, but you beat me to it and nailed it on the head, so. Tldr: M-Audio (just like Alesis and much of Akai) is dead, buy their product at your own risk. Which is unfortunate as M-Audio was showing a lot of promise but Avid was/is having financial trouble and it was a way for them to "streamline" and make a buck. these days, as is the case of most inMusic products, they make cheap rebranded crap. I can't even get a replacement cable for my Q40 headphones (cat bitten) or a replacement tweeter for my monitors (wife poked). Modern M-Audio does not support prior products. M-Audio is now a part of the inMusic conglomerate which includes Alesis, Numark, Akai, Denon, Marantz, etc. Then in 2012, basically at the height of their existence, Avid sold and gutted them. otherwise their BX-series budget monitors and their audio interfaces were very good for the money. M-Audio's in-ear monitors were great, I have a pair of their EX66 studio monitors which were among the best in their range and the mics they made, specifically the Sputnik and Pulsar II were excellent. Over the next several years M-Audio would release some great products which were actually superior to the higher-priced offerings from Digidesign, example: the Digi002 vs the ProjectMix, similar products but the M-Audio version had more I/O options, better preamps and build quality, etc. in the early-00's they were one of the fastest growing music companies and around '03 or so Avid purchased them. They changed their name to M-Audio once they began doing non-MIDI things such as audio interfaces and having acquired Evolution Electronics they began making some of the better affordable MIDI controllers.

they began life as Midiman and were founded by one of the guys who built this~Īnd developed MIDI software for Commodore and Apple. In my opinion M-Audio was like the modern Tascam, an innovative company producing quality gear for the home musician.
